UCCP’S EXPERIENCES |
| 1. Capacity Building of
the Crisis Stricken Communities |
|
UCCP has over three years of experience
in capacity building of the Crisis Stricken Communities. It
has been doing this through mobilizing of the local communities
and formation of farmers groups at the grass-root levels up
to the Districts.
All these levels of UCCP Districts member Organizations have
had their capacity built in several areas such as Farmer group
formation, Organization leadership and management, delivery
of Agricultural advisory services, management of on farm demonstrations,
farm management, record keeping, group marketing of Agricultural
products./ mainstreaming of Gender and HIV/AIDS in their Activities. |

| All these have been done
through: |
• Regular trainings in different
areas: such as group formation and group dynamic, leadership.
• Promotion of the formation of farmers groups at grass
root level. |

| 2. Working Under Partnership
Arrangements. |
| UCCP has created a wide range of
collaborative arrangements with several organizations, both
private and public as follows: - |
| • Implementing ''leadership
for change''. UCCP District members have been empowered through
Training and Agricultural advisory Services, training programmes
in Three Districts. • Sensitizing UCCP District members
on immunization and malaria programmes in partnership with
UNICEF and other stakeholders. In doing this, all the Chairpersons
and Coordinators of UCCP member Organizations are centrally
sensitized at the Apex. They will be expected to come up
with action plans of mainstreaming those programmes and
other activities.
• Organize and conduct workshops for UCCP District
members.
• UCCP is lobbing for its programmes and organize
workshops that are expected to be funded by the International
Development partners.

| 3. Monitoring And Evaluation |
| Since its formation and establishment
of its member organizations, UCCP is effectively monitoring
and evaluating its member’s activities.
UCCP has been always establishing monitoring indicators
that it considers against the outputs and analyses what
has been so far be achieved.
The monitoring and evaluation work has been carried out
through conducting different activities that indicate the
following:

• Ensuring that member
organizations submit reports such as quarterly, half-yearly,
annual activities and accountability reports that facilitates
UCCP to evaluate its performances. • Ensuring regular
submission of monthly membership returns. • UCCP
submits quarterly activity and monthly accountability reports,
to the donors in addition; it also prepares annual programme
implementations, work plans and budgets. • On financial
monitoring each year UCCP prepares for external Audit.
• Physically conducting field trips to facilitate on-the-spot
checks on the implementation status of different programmes
such as;
i. Education of Adult Literacy. ii. Mobilization of
rural youth and women and sensitize them on marketing and
Agricultural productivity.
iii. Training of the District Executive committee members
in five major programmes of UCCP.
• Besides UCCP has been also attending District assemblies
convened by UCCP member Organizations at District levels
and witness the level of democracy in their elections. Where
as some trips has been organized at different UCCP Districts
to help in conflict resolutions.
• UCCP been also organizing planning workshops where
by member organizations have been invited twice a year to
the headquarters to review their performances for the previous
period and plan for the following year. During these workshops
we have been monitoring and evaluating the performances
of each UCCP District. |

| 4. Working with Other
Local Government Bodies. |
The majority of UCCP members are
District based in order to promote cordial and harmonious
working relations between our members and their respective
local government authorities. UCCP team holds meetings with
Districts.
During these visits the UCCP team holds meetings with district
leaders including the Chairpersons, Chief Administrative Officers,
RDC’s, and Secretaries for production to solicit support
for our members. |

Through these interactions, UCCP
has managed to improve the relationships between its members
and District Local Governments as well as its dealing with
governments.
Some of the results that are expected from UCCP’s work
with Local Governments includes; securing sponsorships for
UCCP District members to attend the National Agricultural
Show, and other Local Government funding to enhance their
programmes. |
