The Uganda Coalition for Crisis
Prevention (UCCP) is a registered Non-Government Organization
authorized to operate nationwide by the NGO board according
to the status of our registration.
However It currently covers 20 districts in Uganda namely;
Wakiso, Mukono, Kampala, Mityana,(Central) Mbale, Iganga Kamuli,
Bugiri (East), Kasese, Kabarole Rukungiri, Bushenyi (West)
Kisoro Kabale, Masaka, Rakai(South) Lira Apac Gulu and Kitgum
(North).
4 districts per region in the five regions of Uganda. |
|
The Organization was founded in
February 2004 by Ugandans of diverse professions including
agriculture, environment management, and economics among others.
This was after the realization of continuous agro-related
crises affecting rural and communities in Uganda.
The crises majorly stem from the natural and man made catastrophes,
whereby the natural ones are basically environmental in nature
emanating from poor management of the environment and the
natural resource base and natural disasters like earthquakes.
|
|
The man made crises on the other
hand are due to poor economic and political management as
well as unbecoming behaviour by some cultural groups for example
cattle rustling by some ethnic groups.
All the above forms of crises exist in Uganda yet the interventions
have always been inadequate and the social safety nets for
the communities are equally very weak. |
| Therefore the founders of UCCP
deemed it necessary to have a Non Government Organisation
with the ultimate aim of mitigating crises that affect local
communities in Uganda. |
